Royal Kush (clone) X (Double OG Sour f4) f3, and Hybrids

Over the last several years I’ve started to incorporate some outside genetics from friends who I respect and trust into some new hybrids with my best genetics.

We are excited to announce a new seed line collaboration with Emerald Mountain Legacy.

History

I first became aware of Mandelbrot and Emerald Mountain back when I was selling seeds at Wonderland Nursery through a collective partnership. Other breeders started to be added to the menu, but before CSI, Equilibrium, and Southfork, and Humboldt Seed Co., it was just Ganja Rebel Seeds (Rebel Grown), and then Emerald Mountain Seeds. I remember the Emerald Mountain catalog was a white binder with a ton of pages, and the seed listings and selections were labeled in Roman Numerals that nobody could understand except for Mandelbrot. I could recognize he was doing extensive breeding work with Headbands, OGs, and Sours similar to me, but never had a chance to try any back then. I have since met Ben and his family at events 7 or 8 years ago, and we all know the work and legacy they have continued and the impact it has had.

Lineage / Sources

I was given a Royal Kush clone by Kevin Jodrey years back and in 2020 it was pollinated by a selection of my Double OG Sour. Our Double OG Sour is a long story, short version is, it’s 2/3 OG and 1/3 Sour, and the original OG clone I used in the first round of hybrids was brought up to the Palo Verde in 1998 from LA, and given to a Grower who had been in the community since 1984, who was told by his buyers, “this is OG Kush, grow it for us.”

That original OG Kush clone was in the neighborhood before there were all these different OG cuts with different names going around like SFV, Tahoe, Ghost, Triangle, ect, ect. Double OG Sour is my best OG Kush seed line and was our best selling seeds for years. It’s won several awards going back to the old Humboldt Mecca cup, and won 2nd place at High Times NorCal Cup in 2018, The first legal adult use High Times cannabis cup in California.

The generation of the OG Sour hybrid used in the first male selection had a female seed plant that won 10th place at the Emerald Cup in 2011 It grows huge white frosted cylinder rock hard buds, with some of the best flower to leaf ratio I’ve seen. It’s very easy to process with minimal fan leaf, and has good mold resistance as well. It usually tests 25 to 26% THC when grown well.

Breeding / Selections

The male Double OG Sour that was used in 2020 was selected from an F4 generation that passes all the desired traits from the line, except the nose can be a little recessive in breeding. I grew a few of the F1 Royal Kush x Double OG Sour seeds in 2021 and was impressed with the look and structure and decided to pop a bunch for a breeding run the next season.

In 2022 we started over 100 seeds and several males were kept for an open pollination. From all the seeded female seed plants I only collected seed from ones that smelled Kushy. There were some really nice plants with beautiful frosty flowers and strong sweeter terps that were not kept. I tried to breed out anything with a nose that was bland, musty, or sweet and floral. For this variety I selected more towards a Kushy nose from the Royal, then from the structure and bud to leaf ratio of the Double OG Sour.

For 2023 we started 108 seeds of the F2’s and once again selected down to 3 or 4 standout males for an open pollination. Males are selected over several days through a painstaking series of multiple rounds of elimination. From the females we kept several for testing and have 2 very similar keeper clones that have now been vetted indoors and outdoors as stable, fast finishing, resistant, beautiful, and very good tasting herb.

After the other F2 seed females were fully seeded and ripe, another selection process was done. Each female I decided to harvest was kept and stored separate, and given notes about its characteristics. 6 seeded females were kept, each had noted smell profiles of gas or Skunk, as well as good resin production, color, and resistance. The majority of seeded female plants were never harvested. The F3 seeds being offered are from these 6 keeper selections from over 100 plants.

These F3 seeds and hybrids are not fully tested, however, plants from the F2 have excelled indoors and out and show great stability. Also, all of the females used for these hybrids are from stable lines, and plants that I am familiar with how they grow, and also how they breed. I feel confident sharing these for growers to find some special plants combining the legendary Royal Kush with Rebel Grown’s classic Double OG Sour.
